The new watchOS 4 is now available to install on your Apple Watch! September 19 is here, and users will be able to update to the much-anticipated watchOS 4. Anybody who is upgrading their Apple Watch will already have watchOS 4 installed when their new watch arrives, but you’ll still want to upgrade your older Apple Watch if you won’t be getting your new one right away. There are loads of new features in watchOS 4 that we’ll be covering in our daily tips in the coming months. Keep reading to learn how to update your Apple Watch to watchOS 4.

The watchOS 4 update includes new activity and workout features such as the ability to track HIIT workouts and laps, track workouts with more than one kind of exercise, and assign individual playlists to different workouts. Users will also be able to use Apple Pay within the watch Messages app, download multiple music playlists, and enjoy a smarter Siri.
Here’s how to update to watchOS 4.
- Before you update your Apple Watch, make sure you update your iPhone to iOS 11. You can access the watchOS 4 update via the Watch app on your iPhone.
- Make sure your Apple Watch is plugged in to a power source and is at least 50 percent charged.
- Open the Watch app, go to General and select Software Update.
- If the update is available (Apple tends to roll updates out over the course of the day), tap Download and Install and enter your passcode if requested.
- Agree to the terms and conditions
- Leave your Apple Watch on the charger until the update is complete.
